It is contrary to the values of the Walthall County School District to allow an employee to be retaliated against who in good faith reports an ethics violation or suspected violation of the law. In connection with such values, the District encourages all of its employees to report improper governmental action by District personnel, including employees and contractors of the District, to his or her principal or immediate supervisor. An employee who engages in reprisal or retaliatory action against another employee because such employee has filed, or is suspected of filing, a whistleblower report may be terminated, suspended, or otherwise disciplined in accordance with applicable District disciplinary procedures.

Miss. Code Ann. Section 25-9-171 et seq. provides protection of public employees from reprisal or retaliatory action for reporting, or being suspected of reporting, any improper governmental action to an investigative body or agency. The District will provide all protections provided by law, and will handle such complaints with sensitivity, discretion and confidentiality to the extent allowed by the circumstances and the law. If an employee in good faith believes that his or her principal or immediate supervisor is engaged in or condones any improper governmental action, then the employee should follow the procedures outlined in District Policy GAE governing staff grievances.
